Once your plane lands at Ivato International Airport. At the moment when our guide of I Travel 2 Madagascar will have welcomed you and supported you, his motto is to make your trip in the Big Island, a real dream of discoveries whose images, emotions, sensations and colors will now enrich your experience. After your transfer and your installation at the hotel, depending on the time available, you will start your journey with a visit of the city of Antananarivo, a small tour in the city of the Thousand, to take the pulse of the Malagasy capital.
After breakfast, meet with your guide with for the visit of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park and trek along trails to see wild diademed sifakas,wooly sifakas, common brown lemur and the famous Indri Indri .Explore the trails for orchids and birdlife. In the afternoon, you will visit the Vakona lodge’s reserve to see common brown sifaka, grey bamboo lemurs and the black and white ruffed lemurs.
These hours of travel will transport you to the immensity of Madagascar, an immensity unparalleled that will arouse in you different emotions. Vast expanses of savannah of the Tampoketsa plateau, endless expanses that flirt with the sky, arid landscapes, empty spaces as far as the eye can see, mountain landscapes, subdesoteric landscapes. There will also be small villages along the road, merchants of mangoes, jujubes, tamarinds depending on the seasons. Sometimes you will come across zebus, pulling their wagons or a queue of bush taxis coming in the opposite direction, loaded with their luggage, in a hurry to reach the capital.
After about 5 hours you will gradually feel the heat rise, meaning that you are approaching the hottest region of Madagascar, Maevatanana which is the city stage. It will also be a stop on this tour for you and your accompanying driver who will guide you to a restaurant for the lunch break.
Soon, you will see the impressive Betsiboka River which ploughs its red waters and get acquainted with the gold miners who on its banks try to make a fortune. You could possibly discuss with them their ways of life, and ask them if the gold here feeds his man.
Once you pass the Kamoro Bridge, built under French colonization, you are closer to Ankarafantsika National Park, your final destination on your second day of travel to Madagascar. Once arrived, under the heat of this tropical night of this dream island, you will stay in a small hotel for a night where you will breathe clean air, as close as possible to the beautiful forest of Ankarafantsika.
On the way to visit the national park of Ankarafantsika, for the circuit Coquerelle of 1H30 mn. The Ankarafantsika forest has nearly 800 varieties of trees. You will meet several species of lemurs including the famous microcèbe, the smallest lemur in the world, different species of chameleons and birds. More than 130 species of birds have been listed in this national park and you can enjoy birdwatching.
This tour will then take you straight to the Malagasy canyon, the «grand lavaka» after 3 hours of walking. If the course is rather sporty, the walk is no less pleasant. The less sporty can access it by road.
After lunch, on National Road 6, head to Antsohihy, a stopover town before Ankarana National Park. Once arrived, you will find all your energy to continue the journey after a night at the hotel.
Head to the village of Mahamasina, nestled at the entrance of the Ankarana National Park. The journey continues on the RN6, the road that leads to the northern tip of the Big Island. The 315 km drive takes about 7 hours. The journey is quiet through tropical landscapes.
Your tour guide will take you to the hotel where you will spend the night.
The fifth day of this trip to Madagascar, you will spend it to contemplate this grandiose panorama of the Ankarana. The hike is quite sporty because it requires 8 hours of walking. Its exceptional flora and fauna make Ankarana one of the protected areas of Madagascar.
Several circuits can be made there. From the discovery of tsingy, vast expanses of limestone rocks carved by erosion, to the caves of bats with immense walls littered with their nests through the wonderful Green Lake.
The Tsingy Rary circuit gives, from the top of the suspended and secure wooden walkways that you will borrow, an impressive panorama of the plain of tsingy pigmented with succulents such as pachypodiums. This circuit also allows to go through the «loss of rivers», huge karst cavity in a semi-circle and to reach later the «tsingy of the turrets». On the whole circuit, the show is simply fabulous and grandiose, the emotions are strong! Madagascar, dream island, finds here all its meaning.
Discovering Ankarana National Park requires physical endurance. In the evening, returning to the hotel will be even more appreciated.
Destination the second largest bay in the world where the picturesque fishing village of Ramena is located 20km from Diègo Suarez. The transfer is done by 4X4 vehicle. Once again, you will take the national road 6 for a 6-hour drive through Nosy Lonjo, «Sugar Loaf.» Your tour guide will tell you the story of the famous «Sugar Loaf» or «Nosy Lonjo», symbol of the city of Diégo Suarez, as soon as you see it. This islet certainly has many stories to tell, if only those of the sailors who failed. It remains the theatre of several traditional ceremonies although its access is simply difficult. Once in Ramena, your tour guide will take care of your overnight stay.
The day is placed under the sign of relaxation and idleness. It begins with the presentation of the crew for a canoe trip on the emerald sea, huge lagoon colors sometimes turquoise blue emerald green to paradisiacal beaches.
The flavours of the sea are on the menu of the day. You may have the chance to taste the fresh fish you have caught yourself. Otherwise, you will enjoy the picnic lunch prepared by the canoeists. Other relaxation activities are on the program, it is indeed possible on the emerald sea to kite surf. When the day falls on the beach, it will be time to find Ramena. You will spend the night in the same hotel.
This is another variety of tsingy that we suggest you discover on this eighth day of your trip to Madagascar. During your transfer to the Tsingy Rouge private park, you will already have a taste of the beautiful adventure you are about to experience. The red tsingy, different from the tsingy of Bemaraha by their more rounded shape. Born from the encounter of rainwater and a compact rock, the red tsingy is the result of the erosion of this sandstone-marl massif. The red sand on the surface mixed with sandstone-marl to impregnate the tsingy with the different shades of red that earned it its name. These tsingy are fragile but you will have the leisure to contemplate them in particular the big and the small red tsingy, as well as the Canyon. Their ochre silhouettes, majestic and austere, give red tsingy the vision of an exceptional landscape, an unreal world.
Then head to Anivorano where the main attraction is the Sacred Lake, populated by crocodiles. Legend has it that a traveler who passed by asked for water from the inhabitants of the village who refused to give it to him. He then cursed the village that turned into a lake while the inhabitants were reincarnated into crocodiles. Then return to the city of Diègo Suarez for a night at the hotel.
On the program of this day, the Amber Mountain National Park. To access it, the trip is made in 4X4. The park is about forty kilometers from Diègo Suarez.
Along the Thousand Trees Trail, you will enter a unique tropical garden, a primary rainforest, which several streams and sacred waterfalls water in various places. The fauna is also tropical. Seven species of lemurs out of the 70 species in Madagascar, coexist there. Five species like the day and are therefore diurnal and two species prefer the night. At random, you will meet birds, there are more than 75 species and reptiles including the smallest chameleon in the world, the tuberculous Brookesia. The flora is typical of the tropical rainforests of Madagascar. Botanical enthusiasts or not, you will be pleasantly surprised by this green universe of orchids, palm trees, ficus.
Then visit the city of Joffreville. It takes its name from Joseph Joffre, French military in charge of this northern region of Madagascar under colonization. Created in 1903, the architecture of some of its houses has kept the vestiges of its colonial past. Resort at the time, it also allows access to the mountain of Amber. In the late afternoon, you will return to Diègo Suarez and spend the night in the same hotel.

It is in Ambanja that the best cocoa in Madagascar is produced and that is the world renown of the Big Island. These days of freedom that you will spend on the Island of Nosy Be will lead you to a conclusion: no need to travel the world to find the earthly paradise. It is here in Nosy Be, where the traveller’s trees, ravinala, mango, pepper, coffee, vetiver and others mingle and intertwine in the landscape under the bewitching scent of ylang-ylang to give this dream island, its name, an «island of perfumes». From Mont Passot, you could admire the string of crater lakes and the surrounding islets bathed by the sunset.
